Stand Atlantic are counting down to GODBREATH with one final taste of what is coming. The Australian four-piece return today with NEXT2U, a soaring rock track that turns the traditional love song sideways, aiming it squarely at the friends who make somewhere feel like home.
Out now via Virgin Music Group, NEXT2U wrestles with the strange push and pull of life on the road. Bonnie Fraser writes about missing the people left behind while travelling the world with another group of best friends, wrapping that homesickness around an earworm chorus, heavy drums and rough-edged guitars. It is vulnerable without losing the punch Stand Atlantic have spent more than a decade sharpening.
The single is the final track to arrive ahead of GODBREATH, the band’s fifth album, due October 23. Previous releases Velcro, LUCID and EDGE OF VEGAS have already pointed towards a record willing to stretch the boundaries of Stand Atlantic’s pop-punk foundations, pulling together turn-of-the-century pop-rock energy, modern alternative pop and the heavier instincts that have increasingly crept into their music.
There will not be much time for the new record to settle before Stand Atlantic take it on the road. The band head across Australia this October and November, hitting Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle, with NEXT2U arriving conveniently engineered for the moment a packed room takes over the chorus.
It comes at a busy point in a career that has grown considerably since 2017 EP Sidewinder. Stand Atlantic have now passed 500 million streams across their catalogue, toured with Sum 41, A Day To Remember and I Prevail, and appeared everywhere from Good Things and Spilt Milk to Reading & Leeds and Slam Dunk. With GODBREATH almost here and another Australian run looming, NEXT2U finds them looking homeward just before the road calls again.
