Melbourne electro-soul artist Tanya George has unveiled her infectious new single ‘The Devil’, offering another preview of her long-awaited debut album Contrast, which arrives on 29 July. Accompanied by a new music video, the track continues the rollout towards an album that has been more than a decade in the making, while showcasing George’s growing confidence as a songwriter, producer and independent artist.

Stream it HERE.

Produced by George, with additional production from Lewis Pidutti, The Devil blends soul, R&B, indie and polished electro-pop into a groove-driven track built around irresistible melodies and understated swagger. It’s a playful yet thoughtful meditation on temptation, delivered with George’s effortless vocal control and distinctive musical personality.

The single forms part of Contrast, an album that began taking shape ten years ago and explores the contradictions that define life, relationships and identity. Many of the songs were written in the home of George’s Dutch grandmother, whose spoken-word appearances frame the record. Fittingly, the album will be released on her Oma’s 90th birthday, giving the project an added layer of personal significance.

While Contrast reflects years of persistence and refinement, George’s career has steadily gathered momentum. Since reaching the Top 5 on The Voice Australia in 2021 as part of Rita Ora’s team, she has represented Australia internationally with a fourth-place finish at the Gwangju Busking World Cup in South Korea, while continuing to establish herself as one of Melbourne’s most engaging live performers through appearances at WOMADelaide, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival and St Kilda Festival.

A gifted multi-instrumentalist and vocal looper with a remarkable four-and-a-half-octave range, George has developed a sound shaped by Melbourne’s vibrant live music culture, blending soulful songwriting with jazz influences, electronic textures and pop accessibility.

To celebrate the release of Contrast, George will perform a special hometown album launch at Wax Music Lounge in Melbourne on 8 August, joined by her six-piece band. The venue will be transformed into “Tanya World”, complete with exclusive vinyl, merchandise and immersive production, bringing the album’s colourful world to life on stage.
