Track: Two Door Cinema Club release cover of John Lennon’s ‘Isolation’

In these lockdown times we all need help with a lot of things, from the mundane and everyday to the life-saving and life-changing. So it’s heartwarming to see Two Door Cinema Club do something practical about that, and re-record John Lennon’s Isolation to help raise money for Ireland’s leading social justice charity, Extern. Money raised will help Extern to continue to be able to care for people and families who are isolated or vulnerable during these challenging times and in the months ahead.

Speaking of the band’s connection to the charity, bassist Kevin Baird said “In October 2019 I had the pleasure of visiting the Extern offices in Belfast, just a few hours before our show at The Telegraph Building. I’ve been in awe of their tremendous work ever since, in particular the life saving administering of naloxone to those in the grips of an opioid overdose. Extern work so hard to protect and provide for anyone who need it in Ireland, north and south. They literally save lives and so much more.”

The cover, soaking in synths and given a good slug of echo, is actually lovely, as percussion begins to tumble and scatter and things form out of the wash to give it a bit of a shove along. Over the top the whole thing is decorated with Alex Trimble’s brilliant vocal.
