Album Review: Jack Rock – Explorations of a fourth dimension

Electronic music was always the sound of the future.

Imagined soundtracks of what the world could be. The music of technology mirrored our utopian visions of the new possibilities, ideas and expanded consciousness that technology would bring. This stands in stark contrast to the reality we live in. With technology revealing its sinister side, it becomes increasingly difficult to see techno music as the sound of a better future. The 90’s hope of techno-utopia has become a dystopic reality, where minds are enslaved, rather than freed.

This conflict is the basis for Jack Rock’s “Explorations of a fourth dimension”.

The album offers a nostalgic journey to a time where electronic music was about freedom. Perhaps naively: Free thought, free love and free expression. And musical freedom – a time where music was fun and playful. Technology gave way to new sounds. New structures. Old rules could be broken or ignored.

Through the albums 13 tracks, we take a trip through the first decade of electronic dance music and rave culture. Breakbeat house, acid, junglist vibes, trancy techno and new age-infused ambient blend together like a ́90s rave – fully fitted with the psychedelic chillout room!

Check out: ‘Before’ from the Album.

Through this retro-nostalgic lense, we are transported to a time where technology was still a force for wonderful new ideas. We drop the cynicism of today and dare believe that music still has the power to inspire new ideas. To create temporary communities that live forever. To somehow change the world for the better.

“Explorations of a fourth dimension” is an examination of time. Of course, because music is a time-based medium. But also our relationship to the past, the future, and how these form our ideas of the present.

This album is a travel through the fourth dimension, exploring possible gateways into alternative realities. Reimagining the present through the lense of a future we once imagined.

Jack Rock Live in action:

Verdict: You Like Electronic Dance music? I mean, good Electronic Dance music? well if the answer is yes (as it should be), then track this album down NOW. A perfect retrospective of what made the late 80’s, early 90’s Dance scene so classic, all re-imagined into new works that take you on a journey back through the dimensions of time, to a place where a musical revolution was happening. Jack Rock brings his ‘A’ game on this release, not only in the quality of the tracks but how they are sequenced on the album, making it flow like one beautiful mix. Out of this world.
