A cracker of a new 4CD Box Set released for the 40th anniversary of Punk.
Not that the anniversary should swing you into buying this, if it had come out in the last 20 years it should still be in your CD collection. There have been a few Punk Compilations over the years, some poor mainstream ones and a few good ones The Punk 45`s from Soul Jazz Records and the 1234 Box Set , but this in my mind is the best so far.
Of course you have some class acts on here The Damned, The Rezillos, Stiff Little Fingers and the Ruts, just pulling a few of the bigger names out, but where it gets good is the smaller label stuff, the crossover punk to post punk tracks, it’s a real snapshot of what was in the box at the Independent shop I frequented in those years.
Puncture`s Mucky Pup sounds great digitally, as does The killjoys Johnny Wont Get To Heaven, and I forgotten how good a band The Flys actually were, and this is only CD1…
CD 2, delves in and out again, The Boys who I saw supporting The Jam, plus The Nipple Erecters, and Tubeway Army`s class tune That’s Too Bad.
As I roll into CD 3, The Fall, Leyton Buzzards, Chelsea, The Hollywood Brats and ATV are the standout tracks, and as you move to CD 4 the quality remains with The Ants first single Zerox, and some latter 79 slightly less known but still great tracks inc The Addicts and Fatal Microbes.
The Set comes in a long box and has a great booklet along with the 111 tracks you cant go wrong.

9/10
