There are few bands that have reshaped the possibilities of heavy music quite like Deafheaven, and at Melbourne’s Forum they proved once again why they remain one of the most compelling live acts in extreme music. Touring behind their acclaimed latest album Lonely People With Power, the San Francisco outfit transformed the historic theatre into a space where crushing intensity and fragile beauty existed side by side.
By the time Deafheaven took the stage, anticipation had reached fever pitch. Bathed in shifting light and dense atmosphere, the band delivered a performance that balanced precision with raw emotion, as George Clarke stalked the stage while the band’s sweeping sound expanded to fill every corner of the venue. It was a reminder that Deafheaven continue to occupy a singular place within modern heavy music, refusing to be constrained by genre while commanding an audience completely in the process.
