News: Chicagoans Pretoria return with new EP If We’re Pretending

Building off a trio of singles released last year, the Michigan-formed and Illinois-based quartet Pretoria‘s new EP takes a sideways look at upping sticks to chase a new dream, which is exactly what they did a year ago, leaving behind Grand Rapids for the surroundings of Chicago.

The 7-track EP marks the first major release from the band since 2023’s debut album Where Will the Night Take Us?, trailed by singles ‘Emerson, Everywhere’ and ‘Selfish’, both of which are ideal starting points for anyone new to this band, combining math-rock flair with razor-sharp hooks and lyrical insight.

It’s out today, with the band returning to Michigan for Pug Fest III a couple of weeks. If we’ve got any Michiganders reading this, you need to get along to that. These guys, Liquid Mike, Sweet Pill, Charmer, The Casper Fight Scene, Stay Inside… and that’s just for starters. Stream If We’re Pretending below, and get a load of that festival lineup!
