News: Christian Death’s defining US goth debut ‘Only Theatre Of Pain’ receives an expanded, deluxe reissue in the new year

LOVERS of all things Eighties (read: proper) goth, your attention please; LA’s Frontier Records, in partnership with Cult Epics, has announced it is to reissue Christian Death’s defining debut album, Only Theatre Of Pain, to mark its 40th anniversary in January.

And it’s not going to be any old repress, oh no: it’s gonna come as an expanded 2xLP gatefold edition, with a second, remastered disc featuring demos and alternate takes.

And released alongside there’ll be an outsized, hardcover photo book by famed Los Angeles punk photographer Edward Colver, featuring rare and never-before-seen photographs as well as new interviews with Colver and surviving band members.

Colver befriended the band and followed them around in late 1981 and early 1982 at more than a dozen concerts as well as photo shoots in Rozz Williams’ family home – those shots being used on the back cover of Only Theatre Of Pain – and a session of now famous images at a cemetery in Pomona.

“Finally, fans of the real Christian Death will know how closely I worked with them and get to see a lot of the photographs that I shot during that time,” he says.

The hardcover will only be available from Cult Epics and Frontier Records.
