Grace Cummings is heading home. Fresh from a 20-date US tour, the Melbourne singer-songwriter has announced four Australian headline shows this December, bringing her formidable voice and latest album, Bloodhorse!, to audiences across New South Wales and Victoria.
Sydney gets the first taste on 11 December when Cummings takes over the Factory Theatre, before heading south for shows in Meeniyan, Melbourne and Castlemaine.
Cummings has built a reputation as one of Australia’s most distinctive voices. Her extraordinary vocal range can shift from a hushed whisper to a full-throated roar in seconds, and her music is just as unpredictable. Folk, blues, rock and something altogether stranger collide in songs that rarely take the obvious route.
Released earlier this year, her fourth album, Bloodhorse!, pushes those extremes even further. It’s a record full of dramatic turns, strange beauty and moments of outright chaos, earning Cummings another spot on the Australian Music Prize shortlist. Her previous album, Ramona, received the same recognition in 2024.
The latest US tour has kept her busy, with appearances on the Broken Record podcast and live sessions for KEXP, SPIN and WXPN, among others. Now she’s bringing the album back to Australian stages with her band, Miles Brown, Thomas Brooks, Louis King and Tex Keane-Cullen.
Joining Cummings on the run is New Zealand-born singer-songwriter Ny Oh, whose own distinctive approach to songwriting should make for an interesting pairing.
Fans can also get a taste of what to expect from a newly released six-track live video filmed at Cummings’ sold-out Croxton show in August. It’s another reminder that her music is best experienced with the volume up and the band right in front of you.
Away from the tour, Cummings has contributed a track to Forever Young, a compilation of previously unreleased music from Australian artists raising funds for War Child Australia. Due out on 20 November, the record also features King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Paul Kelly and Sarah Blasko.
With Bloodhorse! earning plenty of attention and another American tour behind her, Cummings returns to Australia with considerable momentum. December’s shows offer the chance to hear just how far she’s pushed her sound.
