Heilung are heading back Down Under, bringing their extraordinary live rituals to Australia and New Zealand in March 2027, including two nights at the Sydney Opera House.
Forget your average gig. The experimental folk collective turn their performances into full-blown ancient ceremonies, complete with warriors, elaborate costumes, incense, throat singing and pounding tribal drums. It’s part concert, part theatre and unlike just about anything else on the touring circuit.
Backseat Mafia photographed Heilung on their last Australian tour, witnessing firsthand the sheer scale and spectacle of their performances. Now the collective are returning for seven shows, taking over some of the region’s biggest and most iconic venues.
Formed in 2015, Heilung have built a devoted international following with their distinctive blend of ancient instruments, hypnotic percussion and music inspired by early civilisations. Led by Kai Uwe Faust, Maria Franz and Christopher Juul, the group have created a sound and visual identity that exists well outside conventional musical boundaries.
Their creative ambitions have also extended into gaming, collaborating with Ninja Theory on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, with the project inspiring their collection Sagas. Following a hiatus, Heilung are also back in the studio working on their fourth album, with new music expected to accompany their next chapter.
German-American artist Lilith Max joins the tour for all shows outside Sydney, bringing her own dark folklore-inspired music to the bill.
