News: McFly’s Danny Jones discusses upcoming Silverstone Festival

Silverstone Festival is an award-winning event that attracts crowds of more than 100,000 and is hosted at the famous Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, taking place on the summer bank holiday weekend of 25-27 August. Incorporating a vast array of off-track attractions supporting a full weekend of top quality historic racing, this year the music stages will be headlined by McFly, Sugababes, ABC and The Christians and whilst entry to the music event is included in general admission ticket, there is also the option of an evening only ticket for the Saturday and Sunday music events with Sugababes and McFly headlining respectively.

As the event approaches 100 days out, McFly’s Danny Jones completed a Silverstone Drive experience in a McLaren 620R and had this to say about the upcoming festival:

“I am just super excited to be performing at Silverstone Festival this year,”

“It’s going to be our first time. We don’t know what to expect but we’ve heard it’s incredible and the crowds are amazing. We all love motorsport as a band so to be performing here feels like a proper milestone.”

“I think music and sport marry really well. Everyone I meet in the world of music wants to be a racing car driver and every racing car driver wants to be a musician. I know Lewis Hamilton does – he has a little bit of a studio set up when he goes on tour. I’ve seen!”

“In these sports cars you can’t hear any music. You can only hear the engine, but that is music! The sound of a V8 is music. Why don’t we put that in one of our songs!”

“We love Van Halen at the minute and he makes a good V8 sound with his guitar. That’s the perfect marriage – if you can make a V8 sound on your guitar you are winning! I’ll have to try my best to recreate it when we play here.”

Previously known as The Classic, the home of British Motorsport (the Silverstone Circuit) has hosted the event since 1990 but has undergone a name change this year to celebrate the wider appeal and experience that the festival has to offer. Silverstone is a year-round, progressive venue that brings sport and music together in a unique way and, while the very best of historic motorsport remains Silverstone Festival’s heartbeat, the live music is central to the off-track family fun.
