Fresh from a triumphant UK tour with Iglu & Hartly, rising indie-rock outfit MOSAICS are set to release their striking new EP A Guiding Lie – a bold and emotionally charged collection that captures a band fully stepping into their identity.
Across five tracks, A Guiding Lie finds MOSAICS refining the expansive indie-rock sound they have steadily been building towards over recent years. Produced alongside George Lloyd-Owen, whose credits include work assisting Nick Cave, The Last Dinner Party and Yungblud, the EP was mixed by Luie Stylianou (Judas Priest) and mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Matt Colton, known for his work with The Cure, Arctic Monkeys and Fontaines D.C..
The result is MOSAICS’ most complete and confident sounding release to date, a vibrant blend of 90s rock revivalism, cinematic indie textures and emotionally resonant songwriting. Rich with shimmering guitar lines, soaring hooks and introspective lyricism, A Guiding Lie balances widescreen ambition with heartfelt sincerity.
Leading the release is the driving new single ‘Godspeed’, a soaring anthem carrying shades of Sam Fender in both scale and emotional punch. Elsewhere, tracks such as ‘A Thousand Faces’ and ‘Sing Me To Sleep’ reveal a more intimate side to the band, weaving melancholic melodies through crashing guitars, pounding drums and subtle flourishes of keys and saxophone.
Speaking about the EP, singer and co-writer Owen Castillo explains: “A Guiding Lie, our debut EP, is a maturation of the sounds and themes we’ve been building towards for the past couple of years. It is an exploration of the isolation of modernity, the death of ambition and the universal lies we tell ourselves and each other to make sense of an uncaring world.”
Guitarist and co-writer Stu Smith adds: “The sonic landscape of this EP was largely inspired by the anthemic stadium-rock sound of bands like Kings of Leon and U2. Equally, we weirdly kept returning to Feeder while we were in the studio, who are without a doubt one of Owen & I’s favourite British bands of the last twenty years, and so underrated.
“These days though, you can’t escape Sam Fender. The way he seamlessly transitioned from indie darling to arena rock between his debut and sophomore albums is impossible not to be inspired by as a small artist in the current landscape, and we’re huge fans of his writing. Some underlying textures on this EP, especially in the guitars, are my attempt at floaty shoegaze-esque leads to add more of a nostalgic edge, which is all thanks to the Slowdive albums I had spinning on repeat last summer.
We ultimately wanted to create an EP we felt was the sum of all our parts, songs that can stand the test of time that we can look back upon in years to come and still be proud of. Above all, we try to make music that anyone can connect with on a personal level, whatever their age or circumstance, attaching their own story to the lyrics and themes we write about.”
The release continues an impressive upward trajectory for MOSAICS, who have rapidly built momentum through a string of high-profile TV sync placements including appearances on ITV’s This Morning, Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, as well as Killing Eve, Obsession, Marriage and The Outlaws. Their recent single ‘Different People’, featuring James McCartney, further elevated the band’s profile and generated widespread buzz.
Known for their compelling live performances, MOSAICS have already sold out multiple headline shows, including a standout night at Camden Assembly, while also reaching the finals of the Isle of Wight New Blood competition ahead of more than 5,000 artists. Following a sold-out UK tour with Reverend and the Makers, the band now appear poised to take an even bigger leap with A Guiding Lie, a release that cements MOSAICS as one of the UK’s most promising emerging indie-rock acts.
