News: Nancy Nova Returns With New Album ‘Tour De Force’

Nancy Nova, the former EMI artist and iconic 80s underground disco diva, has made a triumphant return with Tour De Force, a brand-new album that invites listeners to revisit the electrifying world of vintage electro and high-energy techno. This latest release features 16 tracks, all self-penned by Nova, combining fresh compositions with revamped versions of her classic hits. Adding to the excitement are two standout covers: ABBA’s The Winner Takes It All and Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights, each reimagined with Nova’s signature 80s-inspired flair.

The album showcases entirely new recordings, meticulously crafted to stay true to the bold, dynamic aesthetic of the 80s underground disco scene that first catapulted Nancy Nova to fame. For fans of the genre, Tour De Force is both a nostalgic homage and a contemporary celebration of an era that continues to inspire.

Nancy Nova’s artistic roots run deep, influenced by her upbringing as the daughter of Bob Holness, the celebrated TV and radio presenter. Although her initial aspirations were in acting, with training at the National Youth Theatre and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, it was her passion for music that ultimately took center stage. As a founding member of Toto Coelo, she played an integral role in the group’s worldwide hit I Eat Cannibals before embarking on a successful solo career with EMI in the 1980s.

Nova’s journey as a songwriter began even earlier, achieving her first chart success in 1976 with Jesse Green’s single Flip, which reached No. 26 on the UK charts. Her versatility as a songwriter saw her crafting tracks for artists as diverse as AC/DC, Cleo Laine, and Lena Zavaroni. She also gained recognition as a performer, appearing on Top of the Pops with Jesse Green and starring in the Italian TV series Non Stop, where she sang a track from her album in each episode.

In recent years, a renewed interest in Nova’s work has emerged, fueled by internet fandom and accolades from fellow artists. Punk icon Siouxsie Sioux recently cited Nova as an influence during a BBC Radio 6 interview, recalling an unforgettable live performance at London’s Heaven nightclub—a night that also garnered praise from the late radio legend Kenny Everett.

Reflecting on her decision to release Tour De Force, Nova remarked, “Having been an 80s underground disco diva, I’ve noticed a renewed love for this genre. Now is the perfect time to release my never-before-heard album, perfect for lovers of vintage electro. Tour De Force is a celebration of that vibrant era, featuring hit singles and fresh interpretations of timeless classics.”

Produced and arranged by Kingbones, the album seamlessly blends European dance influences with a distinctly British twist. Tracks such as Heavens You Know deliver powerful emotion, while the anti-war anthem Lily and the dystopian-themed Copy add depth and social commentary. Other highlights include the hauntingly romantic Lifeline, the heart-wrenching You Come And You Go, and the pulsating energy of The Force Megamix and Megasong. Nova’s dramatic lyricism, paired with cutting-edge techno production, ensures a listening experience that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking.

Fans can also look forward to experiencing Nova’s music live, as she plans to perform tracks from Tour De Force at major festivals next summer. “I can’t wait to connect with fans and celebrate the 80s electro vibe together. This album is for them—for the ones who have supported me through the years and for the new listeners discovering this timeless genre,” she shared.

Now available on major streaming platforms and music retailers, Tour De Force invites listeners to relive the magic of the 80s with a fresh, electrifying twist. Nancy Nova’s return to the spotlight is a celebration of her enduring legacy and a testament to the timeless appeal of the genre she helped define.
