NEWS: Nick Cave pulls 2021 European tour

MORE sad news for all gig lovers – that’s pretty much all of us, right? – as Nick Cave has announced this afternoon that he’s cancelled his upcoming European and UK tour dates due to the continuing pandemic.

A short statement says from Nick and the Bad Seeds reads:

“We are very disappointed to announce that the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds 2021 UK and European tour can no longer go ahead due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19.

“The complexity and scale of the tour we had planned, combined with the continued uncertainty around the pandemic means that despite the hard work of everyone involved we have not been able to guarantee that the shows can happen.

“For information on refunds please contact your point of purchase.

“We are continuing to work on alternative plans for 2021 and 2022 and hope to announce some better news next year.

Sending love to you all. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.”

The 29-date tour was due to take in to nights at the London 02, two nights in Dublin and Copenhagen, and a date at Berlins 60,00-capacity Mercedes-Benz Arena.

I don’t buy Cave’s reasons. This is a bad move on his part, being first mover in the cancellation of concerts that were not scheduled to begin until April, another four months. To me it smacks of “I can afford to put this off for a year, until the time when I can make a fat profit out of it from full arenas because you know what, my fans will patiently wait for me.” And in doing do he invites everyone else to so the same. Wrong, Nick. I’ve said from the start of this fiasco that if it persists through 2021 live music will be finished. For starters there will be no venues left. And people will find other things to do. You just shot yourself in the foot lad, and the ricochet will take the business down with you.
