News: Original Pairs Share New Album ‘Long Play’

Since their inception in 2008, Original Pairs have been a cornerstone of the Canadian rock revival scene, channeling garage, rockabilly, and psychedelia through a unique and dark poetic lens. Their highly-anticipated new album, Long Play, represents a significant milestone in their musical journey, demonstrating a polished style and unwavering commitment to their vintage rock sound.

Founders Andrew Frontini (vocals, guitar) and Lisa Logan (drums) were united by their love of rock n’ roll and the local indie music scene, leading them to create a band that has since grown into a formidable four-piece with the addition of Lynda Kraar (bass) and Jon Loewen (keyboards).

Since the release of their debut album, Forbidden Fruit, Original Pairs have consistently delivered high-quality music. Long Play continues this tradition, exploring the intricacies of a couple’s life together with themes of love, challenges, and aging. This album features a superb blend of genres, from rock to pop, ensuring that listeners are engaged from the first note to the last.

Highlighted by it’s silky smooth production, Long Play allows Andrew Frontini’s vocals soaring above the biting guitar tones, punching drums, grounding bass and dappled keys. Co-producer and engineer John Dinsmore has crafted an atmospheric soundscape, delivering a large, live, and articulate sound that gives the album a crisp and big rock ‘n’ roll feel.

Reflecting on the album, Original Pairs stated, “Rock ‘n’ roll is nearly dead, so we need to revive it. That means saying what you mean, playing what you play, sweating it out, live off the floor. No clicks, no comps, no edits, no cynical force-fed, second-guessed crap.”

Long Play not only captures the essence of Original Pairs with vibrant and energetic performances, proving that rock n’ roll is very much still alive and kicking.
