Following the 2024 debut album Resolution, Parallama returns with the funk led new single ‘Castor’.
The Southern U.S.-based, half man-half-Llama musical project of multi-instrumentalist Mike Strickland, single offers a first taste of the upcoming second album. A vibrant dive into a genre-blending soundscape, where psychedelic-rock meets Indie-pop and funk, ‘Castor’ pulses with dynamic grooves, buoyant bass work, colorful melodies, and triumphant brass and guitar licks that feel both cinematic and celebratory. It’s a clear evolution from Parallama’s debut but is still rooted in the same spirit of experimental creativity.
Speaking about the new single, the band’s leader explains: “The first single, Castor, is a bit of psychedelic funk that came to me one morning. When the first sketch was done, I knew I was onto something good. I shared it with my musician friends, who helped refine the song by adding guitar textures and a super-funky bass line. In the end, we crafted something that could have appeared on the soundtrack of an early Tarantino movie.
I start each day by going to my studio and trying to express what I’m feeling through music. Each song is a little piece of me. On my second album, I’ve been joined by some musical friends, which has made the process even more exciting. Everyone who joins the effort brings a unique perspective, which has helped make Parallama richer.”
