Glasgow alt-metal risers Sixth Wonder release their debut EP ‘Prologue’. The EP marks the band’s first extended release since forming in 2021, following a string of singles that have helped build their reputation as one of Scotland’s most exciting new heavy acts.
The four-track concept EP explores themes of realisation, contemplation, antagonism, and escapism, each represented by a corresponding song. It begins with ‘Thorn’, a track focused on recognising betrayal and the emotional toll of a losing battle. The second song, ‘Ropeburn’, contrasts this with a chaotic, genre-blending portrayal of ambivalence and psychological strain. ‘Guts’ serves as the most aggressive moment on the record, delivering pointed lyrics and harsh electronics as a response to ego and superiority. An interlude, ‘Feed The Hand’, connects the anger of ‘Guts’ with the emotional resolution of the closing track, ‘Death Departed’.
“Prologue, from start to finish, brings you on the journey we have found ourselves on in the past couple of years as a solid unit of four,” the band said in a statement. “Each song continues the story we are telling—discovering the darkness and building into the light. Prologue is just the beginning of Sixth Wonder, and we have so much more to give.”
Since their formation, Sixth Wonder have gained airplay on BBC Radio 1 and won Best Metal Act at the 2023 Scottish Alternative Music Awards. They have shared stages with major artists including Dream State, Fearless Vampire Killers, and Future Static, and recently performed at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow. Their upcoming summer tour starts in Aberdeen July 18th.
