NYC-based SuMin.K releases the new single, ‘Breezing in the Sunshine’, continuing her distinctive journey through contemporary classical and jazz crossover with a piece that feels both intimate and transportive.
The new release forms part of the artist’s ongoing Travel Series, a growing body of work inspired by movement, atmosphere, and lived experience. Rather than attaching her compositions to a single destination or narrative, SuMin.K leans into emotional geography, crafting instrumental music that allows listeners to project their own memories and interpretations onto the soundscape.
Across its concise three-minute runtime, ‘Breezing in the Sunshine’ unfolds with effortless charm and buoyant, sunny sense of optimism. Plucky piano keys, softly shuffling percussion, and a graceful violin lead create a sense of ease and forward motion, while subtle dynamic shifts keep the arrangement feeling alive and organic. The production remains deliberately understated, preserving the natural warmth of the instruments and allowing the melodic phrasing to remain front and centre.
Speaking about the release, SuMin.K explains: “Breezing in the Sunshine came from a simple idea, capturing a light, flowing, yet memorable and meaningful moment. I focused on the violin as a central voice, shaping the phrasing and dynamics in a way that feels natural and expressive, supported by piano accompaniment and subtle percussion that I also created using a selection of MIDI instruments. As part of my Travel Series, I invite listeners to experience the music wherever they are, rather than specifying a single location of inspiration. This piece reflects a sense of openness, ease, and unhurried movement, leaving space for each listener to connect their own moments and impressions to it.”
That openness is central to SuMin.K’s evolving artistic identity. Classically trained as a violinist, she brings technical precision and expressive nuance to her compositions, while her growing interest in jazz improvisation has broadened her musical language considerably. A collaborative jazz performance experience reportedly became a turning point, encouraging her transition into composition and helping shape the fluid balance between tradition and experimentation that defines her sound today.
While firmly rooted in classical foundations, ‘Breezing in the Sunshine’ avoids rigidity. Instead, it drifts comfortably between genres, embracing cinematic textures, jazz sensibilities, and contemporary instrumental minimalism without losing its melodic accessibility.
Having debuted her original work in 2025, SuMin.K continues to expand her creative output through both studio recordings and live performance. Alongside new releases, she is also preparing repertoire including Claude Bolling: Suite for Violin and Jazz Piano Trio, further reflecting the crossover spirit that informs her artistry.
With ‘Breezing in the Sunshine’, SuMin.K offers listeners another carefully crafted moment of calm reflection, music less concerned with destination than with the emotional traces left behind along the way.
