South Carolina indie rock outfit Winyah are bringing their sun-soaked sound to Australian shores for the first time, announcing a run of headline dates next February as part of their Right Here, Right Now World Tour.
Formed in the coastal town of Pawleys Island, Winyah have steadily built an audience through their blend of indie rock, southern rock and Americana, pairing guitar-led arrangements with an easygoing sense of melody. Fresh from the release of their sophomore album, the five-piece arrive in Australia at a point where their sound continues to evolve while remaining rooted in the landscape that first shaped them.
Fronted by Thomas Rowland, alongside bassist Stephen Russell, guitarist Luke Gordon, keyboardist Robert Buffington Jr. and drummer Jacob “Jake” Riley, Winyah draw inspiration from artists including John Mayer, The Allman Brothers, Parcels, Flipturn and The Backseat Lovers. The result is music that feels equally informed by classic rock traditions and contemporary indie songwriting, balancing expansive guitars with reflective lyricism.
Their reputation has largely been built on the stage. Winyah’s live shows lean into the chemistry between the five musicians, allowing their southern rock influences to stretch out while maintaining the melodic immediacy that has attracted a growing international following.
With a new album behind them and their debut visit now locked in, Winyah’s February shows introduce another emerging name to the country’s thriving indie rock circuit.
