We are extremely honoured to exclusively unveil the new single ‘Pieces of You’ from Brisbane’s dream pop exponents, SGO. Formerly known as Syrup Go On, we are massive fans of this ethereal band who have an inordinate ability to mary melody and euphoria in their music, creating vast cinematic vistas in the process.

‘Pieces Of You’ seemingly floats in the ether with a crystalline sharpness to the jangling guitars and glorious dual harmonies that are haunting and mesmerising. Underneath the relative calm stillness of the music at the forefront, a shoegaze thrum thunders below the surface – slashes of reverberated guitars with a tremolo blush cut through the mix, and the rhythms sound like a waves crashing on the shore.

The band says the song:

…follows the themes introduced in previous single ‘Bookcase’: reflection, regret and realization

The lyrics are poised and melancholy:

You leave me to address
Every moment every breathe
All the pieces of you

This is absolutely delightful stuff, as always, from this band, fusing undeniable pop sensibilities with a majestic sense of mystery and presence. Shades of MBV, Alvvays and Hatchie may peep from behind the curtains, but the band has its own unique sound:

‘Pieces Of You’ is released into the universe on 22 June 2023 through those magnificent legends at 4000 Records and available to stream and download here.
