Premiere: ROREY chooses herself on ‘Nobody’s Fault But My Own’; new EP slated for August

The events that inspired the pseudonymous New Yorker ROREY‘s forthcoming second EP predate the release of its predecessor, 2023’s excellent Apt 7D. Built around her experiences of, and reaction to, an intense mixed manic episode in 2021, after which she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, thematically the eight-song EP is heavy going, which contrasts sharply with the lightness of touch expressed through her music.

The lead single ‘Nobody’s Fault But My Own’ aches with tenderness and cathartic self-acceptance, highlighting the importance of standing up for yourself, and how you should put yourself first when you need to. ROREY describes it as ‘a love letter to myself’: “It was the moment I learned what true accountability looked like. It was my responsibility to pull myself out of my mental mess. The choice to stay in pain was nobody’s fault but my own. For the first time, I understood I had to choose myself—for myself—not because anyone told me to or asked me to, but because I finally believed I was worth it.”

We’re premiering ‘Nobody’s Fault But My Own’ ahead of its release tomorrow, paired with the song’s affecting music video. Tune in below; the Dysphoria EP follows on Friday August 15th.
