Samuel Or Daniel is the moniker for Sam Guenther, and are a DIY outfit based out of Portland, Maine. hes just released a new single, Philly, taken from a forthcoming record we’re yet to recieve details of (so keep you’re eyes open!). Needless to say, we’re delighted to be able to premiere it right here on Backseat Mafia today.

The band were formed in the global pandemic, along with collaborators Charlie Dahlke, Micah Rubin and John Lisi (of The Brazen Youth) and Will Orchard, Sam has created an indie slow burner that explores the aftermath of an abruptly severed relationship, about which he says “‘Philly’ is about all of the strange places your mind and body take you after a breakup when the momentum from the relationship hasn’t fizzled out yet. And it’s about the catharsis that comes with facing that loss of control and leaning into it. You’re falling and you know the bottom is coming and you know it’s going to hurt. But until that bottom comes, you’re almost flying.”

Alternating between the wistful and the driving, almost muscular indie, its full of gloriously scratchy guitars and memorable melodies, which glue together amongst moments of psych pop to make something rather brillianrt.

Check it out, here
