XUP is Lane on the Mustang bass, drums and vocals – a one woman, all power offering that is here to blow your mind.

Lane began writing, recording and performing as XUP in 2008, releasing seven albums while based in London and Manchester. For live performances, she’s occasionally had other musicians playing drums and guitar, opting to perform on her own from 2019 with a new set up (more pedals and a drum machine.) Prior to XUP, Lane played bass in Manchester bands including an early iteration of the the Nine Black Alps. While based in London in the mid-noughties, she also played bass and began to co-write. XUP was eventually born one weekend in 2007 at an All Tomorrows Parties festival in Minehead! Lane is now permanently based in Manchester and is prepping for the release of a brand new album, Spit & Lipstick, due to drop later this year. ‘Sunday Girl’ is the lead single. Expect post-punk / dark wave / twisted pop / and all things gnarly and bass driven.

To accompany the release, there is a very special, limited edition, hot pink glitter 7” vinyl bundle; only three copies are in existence, and they will only be available on release day via Bandcamp. The digital and physical copies both include the B-side ‘Siamese’.

Lane explains: ‘Sunday Girl is a post-punk pop song about the wash, rinse, repeat cycle of sitting at a bar procrastinating to avoid having to finish an album! No bartenders were harmed in the making of this! We just shared ice cream and listened to shoegaze! The B-side ‘Siamese’ is a droney dark-wave love song for co-dependents!’
