See: Half Japanese release video for Hold On

Damn you, Half Japanese. Despite almost 40 years of off-kilter alt-sort-of-punk, they still manage to catch the imagination and surprise. The band have just released the new visuals for their track ‘Hold On’ taken from their forthcoming album ‘Perfect’ which comes out on 22nd January via Joyful Noise.

It’s typically off kilter, passing to the left (field) of the likes of REM, indie with a sense of Americana, Jad Fair half singing-half barking/imploring. In the background its part anthemic, part almost mathy – check the guitar/piano solo as it writhes around, twisting and morphing as it goes, until flutes signal its end. Constantly pulling your expectations all over the place, it is at its heart, a very fine pop tune indeed.

Check out the accompanying animated video, created by Jad Fairs own fair hand.
