Marveline, the moniker of Sydney musical maestro Pete Marley, released a wondrous power pop track ‘Our Parade’ earlier this year, and he has just put out a surreal and psychedelic video for the song that is as wistful and brilliant.
Completely self-made, it depicts a whimsical and absurd world that has a very slight undercurrent of horror as Marley’s face is imposed on an action man figure and absurdly owl and rabbit-masked characters play a board game that can’t help but remind me of the doom-filled chess game in Bergman’s ‘Seventh Seal’. There is a resulting ominous air that undercuts the bright day-glo colours and the shimmering bright and endearingly catchy tune.
