CANADIAN songsmith Patrick Watson, who leads the band of the same name, somewhat flies under the radar on UK shores – and that’s bordering on criminal once you dive into his world of beautifully arranged music. You may know him as the man behind (well, the man upfront, since he composed, sang and played piano on) Cinematic Orchestra’s “To Build A Home.”

If songsmiths like Meilyr Jones, Andy Shauf, Eric Matthews light up your world and you don’t know Patrick’s catalogue, well: here’s the place to start. Speaking personally, there aren’t enough superlatives.

He’s just unveiled a new track, “Lost With You”, and accompanying video. Recorded during the current pandemic, Patrick felt the urge to reach out to his fans and offer a little comfort.

“I wanted to share this song with you,” says Patrick, “I hope it keeps you good company.”

And beautiful company you’ll find it: the dreamy, romantic wonder of Patrick at his best is all present and correct in that lightly dancing piano, his mellifluous singing; those little theremin-like touches of saw (yes, saw!) and the angelic backing harmonies. Aww, he’s gorgeous.

The video was also directed by Patrick, with the additional craft of Arizona O’Neill, who directed the video for the single from his most recent album, Waves, “Here Comes The River”.

Patrick says: “I’m not going to lie, but finally my embarrassing rollerblading skills came in handy to film this. Homemade Covid videos are very fun to make. I just kept seeing people biking when I heard this song.

A big special thanks to Arizona O’Neill for editing and art directing, and a huge thank you to the talented bikers.”

This is his first new material since the release of the critically-acclaimed album, Wave which, seek ye; it’ll repay you. (As will previous albums Love Songs For Robots, Adventures In Your Own Backyard, &c &c)
