Among The Restless are closing in on their debut album Seasons, but they have one more song to send out into the world first. The Melbourne alt-rock outfit return with 6 Years Of Madness, a personal new single that digs into some difficult territory without sacrificing the band’s knack for a bloody big chorus.
There is plenty of early-2000s Australian indie rock in its DNA, with jangling guitars, driving rhythms and soaring melodies pushed through the band’s more contemporary alt-pop instincts. Beneath that buoyancy sits something considerably more vulnerable, with the song drawing on personal struggles faced by Lachie Dunn. It is direct without becoming heavy-handed, allowing the guitars to do some of the shouting.
6 Years Of Madness is the final single before Seasons arrives on October 30. Co-produced by the band with Thomas Keating and recorded at Melbourne’s Sing Sing Recording Studios over 18 months, the album finds Among The Restless rebuilding and refining the sound they have been developing since forming in 2019.
Across Seasons, the band move between propulsive alt-rock, indie-pop hooks and quieter moments, with Run Baby Run, Play Pretend, Lost In You, Too Far Gone, Fade, Too Soon To Loose, Sunflower and acoustic closer Forever joining the title track and 6 Years Of Madness. It follows two EPs, 2022’s Define and 2023’s All I Want Is Everything, but represents the first time the band have stretched their ideas across a full-length record.
Once Seasons is out, Among The Restless are taking it well beyond Melbourne. Their Seasons Tour heads through Wollongong, Sydney, Canberra and San Remo across November and December before kicking into 2027 with shows on the Gold Coast and in Byron Bay, Brisbane and Melbourne. After years spent working towards album number one, the restless part of their name appears to be holding up nicely.
