Taylor Moss is staring mortality squarely in the face on Gravestone, and rather than getting gloomy about it, she has decided to turn the whole thing into a reason to live louder. The new single arrives today as the latest taste of her forthcoming second album, Double Life.
Built around the simple fact that none of us knows how much time we have, Gravestone takes the familiar idea of living life to the fullest and gives it some dirt under its fingernails. Moss draws on her own medical scares and the perspective they brought, turning thoughts of death into an argument for taking chances, chasing ambitions and refusing to wait for some imaginary perfect moment.
Produced by Michael De Lorenzis, the track brings swampy country textures together with Moss’s big vocal personality and a streak of dark humour. There is plenty of weight behind the subject, but Gravestone refuses to wallow in it. Instead, Moss finds energy in uncertainty, treating the finish line as motivation to make everything before it count.
The single follows Megaphone and continues the build towards Double Life, the follow-up to Moss’s ARIA-nominated debut Firecracker. That record reached number two on the ARIA Country Albums Chart and number seven on the Australian Albums Chart, while Moss has since collected three Golden Guitar nominations and three number one Australian Country Radio singles with Get It Girl, Country Proud and The Women Who Raised Me.
With more than 17 million streams behind her, appearances at CMC Rocks and the Gympie Music Muster, a trip to Nashville’s CMA Fest and a national tour alongside LeAnn Rimes, Moss already has plenty of living on the scoreboard. Gravestone makes the case for adding a lot more.
