New York-based rising star Camryn Quinlan returns with her latest offering, the vibrant and heartfelt single ‘ex box’, taken from the forthcoming debut EP, If We’re Being Honest, set to drop on March 14th.

Showcasing her most commercial-minded songwriting to date, ‘ex box’ embraces an electronic-pop sound that showcases a stylistic variation from the folk and Americana centred approach of her previous releases. The track highlights a depth to Camryn’s writing and an ability to move effortlessly between roots and pop.

While sonically fresh, the single retains the soulful and introspective songwriting that has become Camryn’s signature, ensuring that listeners remain deeply connected to the raw emotion embedded in her music. Produced by longtime collaborator Baldvin Hlynsson, the track seamlessly blends electronic elements with organic instrumentation, crafting a sound that is both understated and strikingly cinematic. The shimmering production lays the foundation for a hook-laden chorus that is impossible to resist, paired with relatable lyricism that speaks to the universal experience of teenage heartache.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Camryn shares: “The meaning behind ‘Ex-Box’ is as simple as keeping things that are left behind from exes. The box of cards, gifts, jewelry, movie tickets, and other sentiments that came from that special person. It’s almost like keeping those physical memories kept the person in your life.”

She continues, “I made the song when I was starting freshman year of high school, and I was just writing in my bed one day, thinking about the box that I had in my room. It was finally recorded three years later when I met my Icelandic producer Baldvin. He flew from Iceland to New York for us to work together and then the song was all put together. It’s crazy how these things happen.”

With If We’re Being Honest, Camryn promises a collection of songs that are both lyrically profound and sonically rich, offering a fully realised artistic vision that carries a youthful flare and a mature musicality.
