Cole Pulice’s latest single, “Fragments of a Slipstream Dream,” feels like standing at the edge of a new world, watching the air shimmer just before you step through. As the opening track of the forthcoming Land’s End Eternal, it gently signals a shift in Pulice’s sonic universe, bridging the celestial ambient jazz of their previous work with the dreamier, more layered textures hinted at on this new record.

The piece begins with a warm, undulating synth wash that seems to cloak the saxophone in a soft shimmer. The horn floats beneath, rippling lightly—playful, curious, and alive. It feels improvised but focused, with an airy sense of exploration. As the track evolves, that easy flow begins to muddy slightly. The textures deepen, harder cuts slice through the ambient smoothness, and a subtle sense of tension builds beneath the surface. Still, the saxophone remains a guiding light—bright, melodic, and uplifting even as the backdrop twists and flickers with unease.

While Pulice’s signature processed saxophone work remains the backbone here, there’s a quiet shift at play. Fragments subtly introduces electric guitar into the mix—an instrument previously absent from their recordings. Though it doesn’t take center stage in this piece, it haunts the edges, signaling a deeper transformation in their compositional approach, one guided by playful experimentation and unfamiliarity.

The result is a track that feels like a dream slipping through your fingers—soft, glitched, and full of life. It’s both a continuation and a departure, a meditation on transformation, and a beautiful prelude to whatever lies ahead on Land’s End Eternal.
