Femi Kuti’s latest single, ‘After 24 Years’, is a brass-heavy, bouncing bundle of Afro-joy. Spidery guitars and repeating keyboard figures intertwine with propulsive drums, creating an infectious rhythm. Kuti’s vocals pull no punches, delivering a searing critique of political failure in Nigeria, while gorgeous vocal harmonies brighten the track further. The song underscores Femi’s enduring commitment to using music as a tool for resistance and accountability, wrapped in a smart Afrobeat cloak.

This release is a powerful statement of intent from his forthcoming album, Journey Through Life, set to be released on April 25, 2025, via Partisan Records. It’s mixes new material with revisits of old tracks, albeit with a fresh perspective, and it sees Kuti produce entirely on his own for the first time. Journey Through Life will be available on CD and digital formats on April 25, 2025, with a limited edition orange vinyl release on May 16.
