Track: Grace Cummings Shares New Single “Times Like These” Featuring Jim James

Grace Cummings closes out the year with “Times Like These,” a new single created in collaboration with My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James. The pair met while touring earlier this year, and the track captures the ease and emotional clarity that emerged from that connection. Built around Cummings’ unmistakable voice — rich, theatrical and deeply human — the song arrives as a quiet reflection on companionship during a season that often carries a sharper edge.

“Times like these is for somebody that needs some comfort and some love,” Cummings says. “The holidays boast joy and celebration, but it’s one of the most lonely times I can think of. My friendship with Jim has helped me to see some beautiful things in the world, and to be grateful for what I have.” James’ presence on guest vocals adds a second gravity point to the song, pairing his warm, unhurried delivery with the drama and precision of Cummings’ phrasing.

Cummings’ path to this moment traces back to her early days as a drummer in high-school bands covering AC/DC and Jimi Hendrix, long before her songwriting began drawing from Paul Kelly, Bob Dylan, Spiritualized’s J Spaceman, and the Irish folk melodies that filled her childhood home. Her writing style remains instinctive rather than methodical — an approach she’s carried since signing with Flightless Records, the Melbourne label founded by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s former drummer, Eric Moore.

Alongside her musical work, Cummings has built a parallel career as an actor, and her sense of theatrical presence sits at the heart of her sound. Her recordings often lean into lavish arrangements that expand the emotional range of her vocals, balancing intimacy with scale. “Times Like These” continues that line of work, grounding its sentiment in something direct and unguarded while maintaining the orchestral sweep that has become central to her artistic identity.
