Track: Jade Rich dives beneath the digital noise on ‘quite the view (underwater)’

Perth alt-pop artist Jade Rich is back with new single ‘quite the view (underwater)’, continuing a busy 2026 that has already brought national radio attention, a support slot with Amber Run and another creative stint in Los Angeles.

Following May single ‘How We Were’, Rich’s latest release heads somewhere quieter and more introspective. ‘quite the view (underwater)’ considers the increasingly familiar problem of trying to remain present while a phone, a feed and the general clamour of online life are constantly demanding attention.

Rather than treating its underwater imagery as something threatening, Rich flips the idea around. Sinking to the bottom becomes a means of escaping the noise, finding some stillness and accepting that personal growth rarely travels in a straight line.

The song emerged from Rich’s frustration with her own digital habits. Attempts to make room for meditation, writing and a deeper connection with her creativity were repeatedly interrupted by supposedly brief checks of her phone that could easily become hours of scrolling. That push and pull between distraction and presence became the foundation for the track.

An accompanying video extends that aquatic world visually, giving the track’s ideas about surrender and stillness somewhere to live beyond the song itself.

‘quite the view (underwater)’ arrives during a period of growing momentum for Rich. She recently made her second creative development trip to Los Angeles to work with producer Stephen Beerkens on her forthcoming album, while ‘How We Were’ picked up national airplay through triple j’s Home & Hosed. A recent Bloom Fest appearance and support slot for UK indie outfit Amber Run have added to a year that is steadily pushing the double WAM Award nominee beyond Western Australia.

Rich will now take the new single into a handful of intimate shows, beginning with a BIGSOUND sideshow at Brisbane’s Royal George Hotel on September 2. She returns west for The Bird in Perth on September 11 before heading to The Banksia Tavern in Busselton on September 20.
