Track: Mark Lucas and the Dead Setters are guided by the ‘Northern Star’: a smooth, poetic and eloquent journey from the new album.

Mark Lucas and his band the Dead Setters are a bit of a Sydney institution: exquisite purveyors of an alt country tinged style of troubadour folk rock that has flowed though the inner west for decades like a vein of treasure. The new single ‘Northern Star’ is a liquid gold river of music, with Lucas’s eloquent crooning like a Las Vegas entertainer dancing across the molten surface.

There is a jazz soul inflection in the music – the gentle sweep of violin and mandolin nestle deep amongst the guitars and organ with Luca’s sonorous, deep vocals a steady hand on the tiller. It’s gentle, hypnotic music that has an antipodean glow and a raw, poetic veracity:

The track is off Mark Lucas and the Dead Setter’s new album ‘Onward Into The Fog’ which is out now – see link below.
