Perfume Genius (Mike Hadreas) has confirmed that his new album, Glory, will drop on 28 March via his long-time label home Matador Records. Produced by Blake Mills, Glory marks the seventh entry in Hadreas’ mesmerising discography. Alongside the announcement, he shared the album’s lead single, ‘It’s a Mirror’, accompanied by a striking music video directed by Cody Critcheloe.
The video reunited Hadreas and Critcheloe, who had previously collaborated on the groundbreaking visual for ‘Queen’, an iconic queer anthem. Critcheloe, known for his work with Robyn, Kylie Minogue, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Yves Tumor, delivered another bold, visually arresting piece.
For Glory, Hadreas teamed up once again with trusted producer Blake Mills and co-writer Alan Wyffels. The album featured a stellar roster of musicians, including guitarists Meg Duffy (Hand Habits) and Greg Uhlmann, drummers Tim Carr and Jim Keltner, bassist Pat Kelly, and a special guest appearance by New Zealand singer-songwriter Aldous Harding.
Hadreas, a Seattle native, began his career in 2008 and released his debut album, Learning, in 2010 to immediate critical acclaim. Put Your Back N 2 It (2012) further solidified his reputation, but it was his 2014 album, Too Bright, that marked a creative turning point. Co-produced by Adrian Utley of Portishead, Too Bright introduced ‘Queen’, which became a powerful statement of identity and defiance.
In 2017, No Shape earned Hadreas his first GRAMMY nomination and widespread mainstream recognition. Produced by Blake Mills, the album was lauded for its lush production and defiant exploration of vulnerability. This success was followed by Set My Heart On Fire Immediately (2020), an exploration of masculinity and traditional roles. The critically acclaimed record featured collaborations with Phoebe Bridgers, Pino Palladino, and others, and was praised for its depth and ambition.
In 2022, Hadreas released Ugly Season, a project born out of his collaboration with choreographer Kate Wallich for The Sun Still Burns Here. The album was accompanied by a surreal 30-minute film directed by Jacolby Satterwhite, blending stunning visuals with his experimental soundscapes.
Hadreas has also announced an extensive North American tour in support of Glory, beginning May 12th in Healdsburg, California, and wrapping up June 27th in Portland, Oregon. The tour featured stops at iconic venues like The Fillmore in San Francisco, the Brooklyn Paramount, and the Showbox in his hometown of Seattle.
Now based in Los Angeles with his partner and collaborator Alan Wyffels, Hadreas continues to push boundaries, proving why he remains one of the most essential voices in modern music.
