Sydney trio Sweetie have announced their debut album Dogtooth, arriving 25 September via Blossom Rot Records, alongside its compelling title track, a song that reframes the band’s gothic post-punk through the lens of love rather than menace.

Stream it HERE.

Produced by Anna Laverty (Courtney Barnett, Folk Bitch Trio, The Peep Tempel), mixed by Wade Keighran and mastered by George Nicholas, Dogtooth finds Sweetie expanding the sound they’ve been refining since emerging during Sydney’s lockdown years.

If recent single ‘Godzilla’ introduced a more forceful version of the band, ‘Dogtooth’ reveals another side. Despite its title, the song is a love story. Vocalist Lily Keenan describes it as an exploration of unconditional devotion, treating the experience of falling in love as something quietly supernatural. That tension between tenderness and unease has become central to Sweetie’s songwriting, where vulnerability is rarely separated from darker undercurrents.

Directed by Imogen Grist, the accompanying video leans into the song’s playful symbolism, following the trio through a series of canine-inspired scenes filmed on Wiradjuri Country near Orange and within an eerily unfinished housing estate. The contrast between open bushland and creeping suburbia mirrors the band’s fascination with the boundaries between instinct and civilisation.

Since forming in 2020, Lily Keenan, Lucy Warriner and Rikki Clark have steadily built a reputation through the EPs Collision and Punch the Shark, earning support from BBC Radio, triple j and Double J while sharing stages with Body Type, The Murlocs, Floodlights, Polish Club, The Black Lips, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and TOPS. Festival appearances alongside Arctic Monkeys and Lil Nas X further broadened their audience, but their appeal has always rested on the strength of their own songwriting.
