Melbourne metalcore outfit The Gloom In The Corner have returned with a new single, Nope (Hollow Point Elysium), arriving ahead of their third full-length album Royal Discordance, due Friday 27 February via SharpTone Records.

A tightly structured track built on shifting dynamics and cinematic pacing, Nope (Hollow Point Elysium) leans into the band’s long-running fascination with pop culture storytelling. Sinuous verses give way to heavier turns, continuing the expansion of what the band refer to as their Gloom Cinematic Universe. According to the group, the song draws directly from action films and video games that shaped their formative years, framing metalcore as something visual and narrative-driven rather than purely confrontational.

The single offers another glimpse into Royal Discordance, a record that moves between direct, high-impact tracks like earlier single Assassination Run and more expansive compositions such as You Didn’t Like Me Then (You Won’t Like Me Now). The album closes with a two-part suite, Love 1: A Quaver Through the Pale and Love 2: A Walk Amongst The Poppy Fields, underscoring the band’s interest in cohesion and long-form storytelling.

Recorded in Nashville in 2024 with producer Jonathan Delese, Royal Discordance sees The Gloom In The Corner refining their sound without abandoning its abrasive edges. There are nods to melody and emotional uplift alongside breakdowns designed for live rooms, reflecting a band more concerned with balance than reinvention.

Since emerging with Fear Me in 2016, The Gloom In The Corner have steadily built a reputation for immersive releases, from Flesh & Bones through to 2022’s Trinity, which drew widespread critical praise. That world-building approach has translated to the stage, with the band touring across Australia, Europe and North America, and collaborating with artists from across the heavy spectrum.

Following a European run supporting Aviana, The Gloom In The Corner will return home to support King 810 on their Australian tour this March, before appearing on the sold-out inaugural Hellbound Cruise later in the year alongside Parkway Drive and Polaris.
