The Lemonheads are about to embark on a tour of Australia and in anticipation have release a blistering single ‘Deep End’, with news of a new album ‘Love Chant’ that will be released on Fire Records later this year.

‘Deep End’ features Evan Dando’s trademark laconic delivery and pop sensibility, with the added frisson of wild guitars from J Mascis of Dinosaur Jnr. It was co-written with Australian sparring partner Tom Morgan of Smudge and features Juliana Hatfield. It’s a louche and cool track, laden with acoustic sparkle and rough edges and sounds as fresh and visceral as ever, indicating the band is still as vital as ever.

‘Deep End’ comes with a new music video that was produced by Surreal Hotel Arts.

‘Deep End’ is out now and available to order here and through the link below.

The digital single release will be followed by a super-limited (500 copies only) 12” single available June 13.

Meanwhile, the flipside is straight out of the Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris songbook; a cover of the late, great Townes Van Zandt’s ‘Sad Cinderella’, it’s a song for the romantics, a tearjerker that could have made its way onto Neil Young’s ‘Harvest’, or any aching George Jones opus; filled with regret and remorse, it’s a beautifully brittle duet between Evan and Erin Rae.

Australian & New Zealand fans will have the chance to snap up a copy of the LTD ED 12″ single on the band’s AUS/NZ tour ahead of everywhere else.

The 2025 tour of Australia will see the band performing their classic albums ‘It’s A Shame About Ray’ and ‘Come On Feel the Lemonheads’ in full for the first time.

The band always had a close connection to Australia with past members including local musicians Tom Morgan (who co-wrote ‘It’s Shame About Ray’ amongst other songs) and re-known musican and producer Nic Dalton who played bass. Evan Dando, the band’s frontman, has also spent a lot of time in Australia. He drew inspiration from his experiences there for songs like ‘Alison’s Starting to Happen’ and ‘It’s a Shame About Ray’.

Dando says of the tour:

I’m beyond stoked to be heading back to Australia, just in time for the release of new music that I’ve been working on, including a single co-written with the incredibly talented Tom Morgan. Australia has always been a massive source of inspiration for my music, and with new music coming soon this feels like a dream come true. It’s also a special moment for me, as we wrap up celebrating the 30th anniversary of ‘It’s a Shame About Ray’ and ‘Come On Feel The Lemonheads’. To be able to mark the end of that era in Australia, a place that’s always felt like a second home, is almost like being blessed to move on to a new moment.

Live, they’ve always been hugely entertaining with Dando an enigmatic frontman.
