Australia’s iconic balladeer Courtney Barnett has just released an MTV Unplugged Live in Melbourne on the eve of an announcement that she will be supporting fellow Melburnian Nick Cave with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds UK and Ireland tour.

Bringing together a host of music luminaries, with some covers, some golden oldies and a new original track, the performance captures perfectly Barnett’s delicate vulnerability and charms, bringing to the fore her lyrical expressiveness.

The performance includes guest appearances from legendary songwriter Paul Kelly, New Zealander Marlon Williams and Milk! Records label-mate Evelyn Ida Morris and includes covers of Leonard Cohen, Archie Roach and Seeker Lover Keeper as well as a never-before-heard original track from Courtney herself titled “Play It On Repeat”.

Track ‘Nameless Faceless’ – Barnett’s ode to the talentless keyboard warriors who cowardly criticise performers and bully women is captured on video:

This is a beautiful, vulnerable performance perfectly captures the tone of the album.

‘Courtney Barnett – MTV Unplugged Live In Melbourne’ is out physically now on CD and aqua blue vinyl, order here. Stream here now and watch full video playlist here.
