Album Review: Mykah – Long Time Coming

Mykah shares something vibrant and deeply resonant with his new eight-track project Long Time Coming, a seamless fusion of bopping R&B, Afrobeats, and soulful pop. At once danceable and introspective, the album radiates bright, melodic soundscapes that balance summery ease with subtle undertones of melancholy and reflection.

Known for his meticulous ear and genre-blurring versatility, Mykah has previously collaborated with heavyweights like Ozuna, Davido, and Boyspyce, building a reputation as a producer who can shape soundscapes that transcend borders. With over a million streams already to his name, Long Time Coming arrives as both a celebration of growth and a declaration of intent.

Featuring an impressive roster of emerging talents including Egar Boi, Morrelo, JHAE, Skeelz, and Morientez, Mykah’s production glows across the record, revealing a refined sense of rhythm, flow, and atmosphere. Wide, airy synths and punchy percussion create a sound that feels both commercial and rich with personality.

Opening with The Intro, Mykah sets the tone through breezy synth textures, tight auto-tuned vocals, and a chilled, ambient vibe before sliding into the Afro-infused groove of Felony. Its sultry melodies and sleek polish make for a track that feels radio-ready — an easy fit for BBC Radio 1Xtra or any global playlist.

Elsewhere, Uche-Jumbo and Que Se delve into Majestic Casual-esque territory, pairing glossy electronic production with gliding vocal hooks that lend an emotional sincerity to the otherwise celebratory pulse of the instrumentation. These moments showcase Mykah’s ability to blend club-ready beats with depth and feeling, a balance few producers pull off so gracefully.

As the album moves toward its close, Keys stands out with its lo-fi guitar textures and hypnotic beats, highlighting Mykah’s gift for pairing intimate vocals with lush, atmospheric production. The finale, Matilda, leans into acoustic warmth and R&B accessibility — its Craig David-esque cadence evolves into layered harmonies and a nuanced, textured finish that perfectly encapsulates the album’s emotive core.

Speaking about the project, Mykah reflects on its personal weight: “This EP represents a new chapter for me as a producer. It’s been four years since my last release, and in that time I’ve grown not just in my music but as a person. Every track reflects the journey I’ve been on since 2020, and I’m excited to finally share that growth and energy with everyone.”

After a four-year hiatus, Long Time Coming feels like more than a return, it’s a reintroduction. The album underscores Mykah’s evolution as both a craftsman and storyteller, his sound laced with warmth, rhythm, and emotional precision.

Long Time Coming is a testament to Mykah’s patience and passion, culminating in a project that feels timeless, confident, and deeply human despite the heavy electronic nature of the production. It’s a vivid reminder that some journeys, no matter how delayed, are worth every beat of the wait.
