J Hubner

306 posts
Born in the bosom of the Midwest, USA, J Hubner grew up in a woods next to a cornfield that was just a throwing distance to a lake. Music has been a constant in J Hubner's life since he was a little kid soundtracking epic battles with Star Wars action figures with his older brother's Deep Purple, Megadeth, and W.A.S.P. cassettes. He started playing guitar at 12 and since 2006 has self-released 10 albums under the names Goodbyewave, Sunnydaymassacre, Dream District, and J. Hubner. Three years ago J Hubner began writing about music independently. Album reviews, artist interviews, and general musings on his love of music. He writes at www.jhubner73.com, www.backseatmafia.com, and several smaller musical publications. J Hubner is married with three kids and a miniature schnauzer named Otto. He still resides in the Midwest, USA. Near that same lake.

Album Review: Damien Jurado – Visions of Us on the Land

  • March 22, 2016
  • J Hubner
Damien Jurado is one of the most interesting musicians working today. He may not think that, but he’s a modest guy. Jurado’s not the kind of artist that sits around…

  • J Hubner
Once in a great while a record comes out and completely catches me off guard. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. With the debut record of LNZNDRF…

Album Review: Causa Sui – Return To Sky

  • March 7, 2016
  • J Hubner
There’s only a few instrumental outfits these days that pack as big a sonic punch as Causa Sui. These four guys from Denmark have been making trippy, mind-altering rock and…

Album Review: Thug Entrancer – Arcology

  • March 4, 2016
  • J Hubner
I think I’ve always liked electronic music in some form or another. From intros to 80s cartoons to being enamored by Kraftwerk’s “Autobahn” at the age of 9, there’s always…

Album Review: Wolfmother – Victorious

  • March 3, 2016
  • J Hubner
Man, do you remember back in 2005 when Wolfmother dropped their debut album? That glorious mix of proggy, organ-drenched, chunky guitar goodness that reminded us that Uriah Heep were pretty…

Album Review: Wild Nothing – Life of Pause

  • February 19, 2016

I’ve been smitten with Jack Tatum ever since I heard “Nocture” back in 2012. Such beauty and bittersweet melodies in that song. I knew right then that this Tatum fellow…

Album Review: Animal Collective – Painting With

  • February 17, 2016
  • J Hubner
Animal Collective can say that they have most assuredly created their own unique musical world. No one can even come close to reinterpreting their sound and their vibe. Maybe t-U-n-E-y-A-r-D-s…
