Sydney is getting a new outdoor concert series in 2027, and it is starting with a sizeable first swing. The Strokes will headline the inaugural Sydney Summertime at Centennial Park on Saturday, February 20, joined by Beck, Courtney Barnett and Promiseland.
The show will be The Strokes’ only Sydney appearance and only outdoor date on their Reality Awaits Australia 2027 tour, which brings the New York band back to the country in February. It also closes their Australian run after a year that has already seen them playing to packed rooms across North America and Japan, with sold-out dates across the UK, Europe and South America still ahead.
There is plenty happening further down the Centennial Park bill. Beck brings a career spanning four decades to the lineup, while Courtney Barnett returns with new album Creature of Habit. Promiseland, the high-energy project of Johann Rashid, completes the bill, with another connection to the night through Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records.
The February 20 concert also marks the beginning of Sydney Summertime itself. Presented by Secret Sounds and Live Nation, the new series will take over Centennial Park across late February and early March, with further international headliners and Australian artists still to be announced.
Sydney Summertime is also going well beyond the standard patch of grass and a stage. Six ticket options range from general admission and front-of-stage Gold Circle access through to The Grove garden VIP village, Golden Grove and The Terrace, which offers elevated grandstand views across the main stage. Private suites for groups of 30 to 50 will sit at the top end of the experience.
For its opening night, though, the music does most of the heavy lifting. The Strokes, Beck and Courtney Barnett on the same outdoor bill already gives Sydney Summertime an imposing introduction, while Promiseland adds a younger jolt to a lineup that stretches across several generations of alternative music.
