A packed house in Sheffield welcomed The Bluetones with open arms a couple of weeks back, as the beloved Britpop survivors delivered a set full of warmth, wit, and wall-to-wall tunes. From the moment they hit the stage, it was clear the crowd were in for a treat—a sea of long-time fans singing every word, cheering every familiar intro, and embracing the band like old friends.
The Bluetones didn’t disappoint, rattling through a crowd-pleasing setlist that covered some of their biggest hits and deep cuts from across their catalogue. Staples like Are You Blue or Are You Blind?, Marblehead Johnson, and Bluetonic had the crowd bouncing, while Slight Return—preceded cheekily by a few bars of East 17’s Stay Another Day—brought a wave of nostalgic euphoria. Newer tracks slotted seamlessly into the set, proof that the band are still writing sharp, melodic pop songs with genuine heart.
Frontman Mark Morriss was in top form—charismatic, enigmatic, and downright hilarious. His off-the-cuff banter had the audience in stitches, and his chemistry with the crowd added an extra layer to an already electric evening. Despite the absence of bassist Scott Morriss (residing in Japan these days), the band sounded tight and confident, with the new bassist holding down the groove effortlessly.
With classics like Cut Some Rug, Keep the Home Fires Burning, and a rousing If… to close, this was more than just a nostalgia trip. The Bluetones proved they’re still a vital, creative force—funny, fresh, and full of life. A brilliant night all round.
