Its been a while since we got to write about the dark synth-pop of Brooklyn duo Weeknight, aka Andy Simmons and Holly MacGibbon. Following on from last years debut LP Post-Everything, the two are streaming a new track, Califorinia. Its taken from a new cassette single In the Dust, that drops on April 21st via Dead Stare Records.
Right from the off, there’s this warm and almost claustrophobic feeling about the track. Simmons and MacGibbon’s voices dance around eachothers, soaked in echo, as these slow moving synth lines back everything up, sharpened by only the most minimal of percussion lines. Its the loveliness of the melody that makes it though, a slow heart-wrencher of a song, with the guitar adding its own woes to the mix with an aching solo and ghostly interruptions.
Its quite, quite beautiful.
