News: Beth Orton announces Australian tour for March 2027

Beth Orton is heading back Down Under. The British singer-songwriter has announced a four-date Australian tour for March 2027, bringing her latest album, The Ground Above, to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

It’s her first Australian visit since April 2024, with the upcoming run also marking a long-awaited return to Perth.

Few artists have navigated the shifting landscape of British alternative music quite like Orton. From the groundbreaking fusion of folk and electronica on her 1996 debut Trailer Park to the more experimental territory of 2022’s Weather Alive, the BRIT Award winner and Mercury Prize nominee has spent three decades refusing to be pinned down.

Her latest album, The Ground Above, released in 2026 via Mushroom Music and Partisan Records, finds her confronting grief, motherhood, mortality and the increasingly uncertain world around her. It’s an intimate, sometimes unsettling record that balances vulnerability with a determination to keep moving forward.

Self-produced by Orton, the album features an impressive cast of collaborators, including Tom Skinner of The Smile, Shahzad Ismaily, Sam Beste, Chris Vatalaro and Tom Herbert. Drawing on spiritual jazz, improvisation and alternative folk, it continues the adventurous musical direction established on Weather Alive.

Orton’s distinctive voice remains central to it all, capable of moving from fragile restraint to extraordinary intensity. Australian audiences can expect material from The Ground Above alongside selections from a catalogue that includes Trailer Park, Central Reservation and Comfort of Strangers.

With more than 30 years of music behind her and a critically acclaimed new album to explore, Orton’s return promises a compelling encounter with one of Britain’s most consistently inventive songwriters.

Frontier Members can access presale tickets from Wednesday 4 November at 11am local time, with general public tickets available from Thursday 5 November at 12pm local time.
