Combining decades of electronic dance music sensibilities with subtle pop influences, Blantyre is a collaborative music project founded by composer and producer Richard von Kalmar. Working alongside vocalist Carly Graeme and keyboardist Clifford Cooper, the trio brings together a shared affinity for atmospheric composition and emotionally driven storytelling, positioning their work at the intersection of electronic texture and narrative songwriting.
Their debut release as a collective, ‘Sooner or Later (Silver Screen Remix)’, introduces a sound world that leans into immersive, classic-leaning electronica while retaining a distinctly contemporary emotional core. Built on a foundation of prominent bass and piano lines, the track unfolds through layered percussion and finely detailed electronic textures, evoking a downtempo Balearic sensibility where mood and space take precedence over rhythmic urgency.
From its opening moments, the remix establishes a cinematic tone. Synths drift through reverb-heavy space, pads swell and recede, and the vocal performance sits at the centre like a private monologue unfolding in public view. Rather than pushing toward a traditional club crescendo, the track resists momentum in favour of atmosphere, allowing its narrative contours to breathe.
At its heart, ‘Sooner or Later (Silver Screen Remix)’ explores themes of identity, visibility, and the psychological distance between public image and private reality. The result is a reflective portrait of life under scrutiny, where recognition and relevance become fragile currencies.
Speaking about the project, Richard von Kalmar describes the intent behind the remix:
“We were interested in producing a downtempo electronica track using ideas developed for a song with a classic pop song structure. The Silver Screen remix of Sooner or Later was the result and is a 105 BPM electronic piece with haunting vocals, prominent bass and piano lines, layered percussion, big pad sounds, and synths drenched in reverb, delays and other effects. The remix unfolds with a cinematic quality that prioritises mood over momentum. The track allows its atmosphere and narrative to take the lead.”
He expands on the lyrical concept, which sketches the inner world of a female celebrity navigating the erosion of fame and certainty:
“Lyrically, the song sketches the inner world of a female celebrity in the public eye, navigating the fading echoes of success and recognition, that quiet realisation that something that was once within reach has started to slip away. Confidence gradually gives way to uncertainty, despair, and vulnerability. We were interested in capturing a sense of distance between who someone used to be and who they are becoming. It is about the moments that linger when applause fades, and attention starts to wane.”
The result is a track that feels less like a conventional remix and more like a reimagined short film in sound, where emotional pacing is as important as harmonic structure. Vocal lines drift through the mix with a restrained intensity, while rhythmic elements remain understated, reinforcing the track’s introspective tone.
With further material already in development, Blantyre are continuing to shape the next phase of the project, including additional reinterpretations of ‘Sooner or Later’ alongside a growing catalogue of original compositions. Drawing on influences from electronic music, art-pop, and cinematic scoring traditions, Richard von Kalmar, Carly Graeme, and Clifford Cooper remain focused on building a body of work defined by atmosphere, character, and emotional depth.
Following earlier chart success for von Kalmar’s previous single ‘Runaway’, which reached No. 1 on the Euro Indie Chart, ‘Sooner or Later (Silver Screen Remix)’ offers a compelling introduction to Blantyre’s evolving creative identity, one rooted in cinematic electronica and reflective storytelling, where sound is used less to impress than to immerse.
