With just 12 weeks to go until the gates open at Catton Park, Bloodstock Open Air 2026 is sharpening the blades for what looks set to be one of the most extreme editions in the festival’s history. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, BOA 2026 is absolutely stacked for fans of Thrash, Death and Black metal, with the Ronnie James Dio Stage, Sophie Lancaster Stage and New Blood Stage all delivering enough riffs, blastbeats and circle pits to leave Derbyshire scorched by Sunday night.
Thrash fans are especially spoiled this year. Brazilian legends Sepultura hit the Ronnie James Dio Stage on Friday as part of their farewell run, bringing four decades of groove-laden destruction and tribal fury to Bloodstock one last time. Expect a career-spanning set loaded with classics from ‘Roots’, ‘Chaos A.D’. and ‘Arise’ as the iconic band continue their final march across the globe.
Joining them on the Ronnie James Dio Stage are crossover maniacs Municipal Waste, whose Party-Thrash chaos should produce one of the wildest pits of the weekend. Whether they’re ripping through ‘Born To Party’ or ‘The Art of Partying’, their reputation for absolute mayhem makes them essential viewing for anyone craving old-school speed and violence.
Also flying the flag for classic Bay Area aggression are Testament, on the Ronnie James Dio Stage, and Death Angel who will now be crushing the Sophie Lancaster Stage. Testament’s razor-sharp precision and gigantic catalogue guarantee a masterclass in veteran Thrash supremacy, while Death Angel remain one of the most ferocious live acts in the genre, still sounding every bit as hungry and dangerous as they did during the tape-trading era.
Modern extremity is equally well represented. Sweden’s Orbit Culture land on the Ronnie James Dio Stage armed with their colossal fusion of Melodic Death Metal, groove and industrial heaviness. With their profile continuing to explode thanks to relentless touring and crushing live performances, they look primed for one of the breakout sets of the entire festival.
Over on the Sophie Lancaster Stage, things get even nastier. Canadian technical Death Metal icons Cryptopsy headline the stage on Thursday with a special ‘None So Vile’ 30th anniversary performance. Few bands in extreme metal can match Cryptopsy’s sheer brutality and precision, and their appearance alone makes BOA 2026 essential for death metal devotees.
US death metal wrecking crew 200 Stab Wounds also join the Sophie Lancaster Stage lineup, bringing chainsaw riffs and relentless violence that perfectly suits Bloodstock’s increasingly savage late-night atmosphere. Their rise through the underground has been rapid, and their BOA debut could well become one of those “I was there” moments.
For Black Metal fans, the Sophie Lancaster Stage offers plenty of darkness. UK occult Black Metallers Blood Countess promise a ritualistic and sinister performance drenched in atmosphere, while Trivax bring their fierce blend of blackened extremity and Middle Eastern influence to one of the most diverse underground bills Bloodstock has assembled in years.
Meanwhile, underground newcomers Imperial Demonic represent the next generation of extremity on the New Blood Stage. For many attendees, Bloodstock’s smaller stages are where future headliners are discovered, and Imperial Demonic have the chance to make a serious statement in front of the festival’s most dedicated riff worshippers.
With Thrash legends, Death Metal innovators and blackened underground fury spread across every stage, Bloodstock Open Air 2026 is shaping up to be a paradise for extreme metal fans. And with only 12 weeks left until the campsites fill, the beers flow and the first riffs echo across Catton Park, the countdown to Britain’s heaviest weekend is officially on.
