Brian Elodi has released his debut full-length album, After Only, bringing to listeners a collection of songs that have largely existed outside the public spotlight for years.
The 13-track record began as a deeply personal project. Following the birth of his daughter, Elodi decided to record and preserve a selection of songs he had accumulated over many years. Initially conceived as a musical time capsule, After Only was created with the hope that his daughter would always have something of her father’s to listen to as she grew older.
What started as a modest effort to document and archive those songs soon evolved into something far more ambitious.
That transformation began after Elodi connected with Ben, a Washington, D.C.-based studio owner, producer and musician. The creative partnership helped elevate the project beyond its original scope, turning what was envisioned as a simple collection of demos into the richly textured After Only, featuring thoughtful production, layered arrangements and carefully crafted performances.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Bon Iver, Iron & Wine and The Lumineers, After Only sits comfortably within the singer-songwriter and indie folk traditions while maintaining a distinct identity of its own. Throughout the album, Elodi uses exaggerated fictional characters and imagined narratives to explore universal emotions and experiences, an approach that has defined much of his songwriting over nearly three decades.
While his musical journey began in heavier genres, Elodi gradually gravitated toward acoustic guitars, understated instrumentation and a more conversational vocal style. The result on After Only is a collection of songs that feels reflective, lived-in and unpretentious, prioritizing honesty and storytelling over technical perfection or grand spectacle.
The personal nature of the project extends beyond the music itself. The artwork for After Only was painted and designed by Elodi’s wife, adding another family connection to a record that began as a gift for his daughter.
“My three-year-old daughter thinks I’m famous because that’s what I told her,” Elodi said with a laugh. “She sings the songs better than I do.”
Now, with the release of After Only, Elodi is inviting listeners into his world for the first time. What began as a private collection of songs intended for one person has become a carefully crafted debut album ready to find a much larger audience.
For Elodi, After Only represents more than just a milestone in a musical journey. It is the culmination of years of songwriting, reflection and collaboration, and the beginning of a new chapter in which those songs can finally be heard beyond the walls of home.
