Singer-songwriter Chloë Wilson will release her debut single ‘Broken Me’.
The first single to be taken from the upcoming debut EP, the single blends the emotional scope of 1970s ballads with contemporary production. Built around warming piano and her soulful lead vocals, the track grows from its spacious opening to a soaring, cinematic soundscape as the full backing band enters. Mentioning that she is influenced by the likes of Wilson include Adele, Tori Amos, and Stevie Nicks, the single captures a distinct and impactful sound comparable to Birdy.
“This song for me was like a letter that I never got to send—all these questions I had, and couldn’t find the answers to,” Wilson said. “Broken Me feels like my first real statement as a songwriter.”
Wilson, who was born and raised in Milton Keynes, began writing ‘Broken Me’ at the age of 16. Over the course of six years, the song evolved through multiple rewrites and recordings to reach its final form. Described by the artist as “a letter I never got to send,” the new single explores themes of heartbreak, uncertainty, and emotional introspection.
Wilson’s musical influences trace back to her childhood. Referring to herself as a “70s pop princess born a few decades too late,” she was raised on a mix of Fleetwood Mac, Donna Summer, and Led Zeppelin. She began her career performing in public spaces, from busking in London to playing small venues across the north of England, even playing live on some canal boats. Now releasing her first full project, the solo artists sets her sights on bigger things, displaying a remarkably full and polished sound on the new single.
“When I was younger, I would always try to describe what I was trying to say without actually saying it,” she explained. “But with Broken Me, I wanted it to come from me, and from the parts of my experience I typically wouldn’t vocalise.”
