Freddie Gibbs has added a string of Australian headline shows to his October itinerary, with the Grammy-nominated rapper set to visit Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth alongside his previously announced appearances at the inaugural Move My Way festival in Sydney and Melbourne.
Long regarded as one of hip hop’s most technically gifted and dependable voices, Gibbs has carved out a unique lane between gangsta rap traditions and the underground. Over the past two decades, the Indiana MC has built a catalogue that rewards both casual listeners and crate-digging devotees, earning a reputation as an artist whose sharp storytelling and uncompromising approach rarely waver.
Beginning with a prolific run of self-released mixtapes, Gibbs emerged from the internet rap era as one of its most compelling voices. Projects including Str8 Killa, Piñata, Shadow of a Doubt and You Only Live 2wice steadily expanded his profile, while collaborations with Madlib and later The Alchemist helped establish him as one of the defining rappers of his generation.
That partnership reached new heights with 2020’s Alfredo, which paired Gibbs with producer The Alchemist and featured appearances from Rick Ross, Tyler, The Creator and Conway the Machine. The album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album and has since become widely regarded as one of the standout hip hop releases of the decade.
Subsequent singles including ‘Gang Signs’, ‘Big Boss Rabbit’ and ‘Black Illuminati’ paved the way for $oul $old $eparately, which debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 and became the highest-charting release of his career. In 2025, Gibbs and The Alchemist reunited for Alfredo 2, reviving one of contemporary rap’s most celebrated creative partnerships. Earlier this year, he expanded You Only Die 1nce with a deluxe edition featuring ten additional tracks.
Across a career that has drawn praise from The New Yorker and The Guardian, Gibbs has collaborated with artists as varied as Danny Brown, Pusha T, ScHoolboy Q, Anderson .Paak, Yussef Dayes and J.I.D., assembling a body of work that continues to influence the shape of modern rap.
